Warning About DIY Intimate Lightening Treatments

We've talked a lot about highlights in your hair, highlighting your face, lasers, skin brightening. That's a huge beauty trend. But have you thought about lightening things up down there? (audience groans) Well, they do anal bleaching, so..

They do. Oh, okay, so let's just normalize this, Andrew. It's all in the neighborhood. Hey, if we're going to anal bleach, we might as well bleach everything so it can match. But then a legitimate beauty blogger, I guess her name is Huda Kattan, has more than 25 million followers on Instagram.

So doc, talk to me about how she did this. First of all, they call it vaginal lightening, which is the red flag number one because they're not really talking about the vagina.

They're talking about the vulva, which is the outside, so your labia, your clitoris, things like that. So that's red flag number one. They didn't use the proper terminology.

Well, I mean, it sounds like whether it's going to actually lighten anything. I've got to tell you, I don't have a vulva, but putting lemons on my vulva doesn't sound fun.

It wouldn't sound fun to the average woman because, I mean, this can be really irritating, right? Because it's really sensitive skin, so it can get irritated.

Additionally, when you start adding all of this stuff down there, then it can throw off the pH, increase the probability of infection, and things like that. And then, a bigger thing for me is, ladies when it comes to your vulva, we know that they can look different, and honestly, the way your vulva looks at 32 or 42 is not going to be how it looked at 17. It has a few years under its belt, right?

But that's okay, that's okay. She's been good to you, so be good to her. Don't start rubbing lemon all over her because she starts to look a little different. And all of the little changes have a story to go with it, right? Exactly, exactly.

But if you notice any lumps or bumps or if it really changes colors, that's not something you just want to rub lemon juice on. No. You should let a doctor look at that because there could be a serious underlying issue.

If there's something that really bothers you, that makes you self-conscious, that's affecting you physically, emotionally, psychologically, affecting your relationships, a lot of things we can do down there these days. Trimming, evening out the inner lips, the outer lips, vaginal tightening, adding volume if you need it, all can be done.

But can I just say, I'm sorry, can I just say, make sure you're doing it because you want to do it, not because your partner told you to do it because if your partner wants you to do it, then... How did this segment go from armpit detox to vulvoplasty? Before you put anything on or near your vajayjay, clear it with your gyn.
