How to Brighten Dull Skin: 4 Simple Solutions

If you’re over the age of eighteen, this is not an uncommon problem. During the teenage years, skin naturally exfoliates every two weeks.

This means that fresh, youthful skin is revealed as the outer layer of dead skin cells is shed. This helps to keep your complexion youthful and glowing.

Skin can also become dull when blood flow and oxygenation of skin cells is reduced. This is particularly common in smokers who tend to develop dry, dull skin with fine lines. If you suffer from dull, lifeless skin, there are some simple steps you can take to brighten and rejuvenate your complexion:

1.Stop Smoking

The nicotine found in tobacco constricts blood vessels which decreases blood flow and oxygen and nutrient delivery to the skin cells. The result? Dull, lifeless skin with grey undertones.

Smoking is also a major factor in premature aging, causing reduction in collagen synthesis which further contributes to dry, dull skin. If you want your skin to appear more vibrant and youthful, kick the habit.

2.Exfoliate

Regular exfoliation with an exfoliating pad designed for the face can remove the dead skin cells that dull your complexion. Make it a practice to exfoliate on a regular basis and the result will be a healthier looking complexion.

If daily exfoliation at home isn’t enough, you may want to consider microdermabrasion or a superficial peel performed by a dermatologist or aesthetician. Although a bit more costly, these procedures when done regularly can have a dramatic effect on skin that looks dull.

3.Stay Well Hydrated

Avoid excessive alcohol which can promote fluid loss and contribute to the problem of dull, lifeless skin.

4.Replace Moisture

Skin is particularly prone to looking dull in the cold, winter months when the sebum barrier is broken down due to the harsh climate. This results in a loss of moisture which gives skin a dull, parched look.

To alleviate this problem, avoid using hot water when cleansing your face and switch to a light cleansing cream rather than a soap. Be sure to apply a layer of moisturizer to replace moisture lost due to the elements. Always apply moisturizer immediately after facial cleansing to allow it to be maximally absorbed.

Following these guidelines should help to brighten dull skin and give you a more youthful glow. Why not give them a try?
